Pharmacy First Plus

Service

Pharmacy First Plus

Can’t get an appointment with your GP?

Pharmacy First Plus is delivered by our Independent Prescribing Pharmacist in store. This service supports patients and their families with acute common conditions that go beyond the standard Pharmacy First Scotland Service.

One of the main advantages for you is the convenience of getting treatment at your local pharmacy without needing to visit your GP first. This means you can often skip the process of making an appointment. And if you do need one, pharmacies typically have much shorter wait times compared to many GP surgeries. It’s quicker and easier to visit us, and we’re even open on Saturdays!

From the NHS’s perspective, this service helps reduce the burden on GP practices and A&E departments by offering care for minor conditions directly at your pharmacy. This means you don’t have to go to your GP for common health concerns.

Rest assured, our pharmacist is fully qualified to provide these treatments. If needed, we also know when to refer you to a GP or A&E, ensuring you receive the appropriate care.

NHS Pharmacy First Scotland Program

At Bristo Square Pharmacy, we can offer these services because we’re part of the NHS Pharmacy First Scotland program. This service is available to anyone living in Scotland, regardless of age.

Our prescribing pharmacist gives expert advice and treatment for minor illnesses and common conditions directly from your local pharmacy—without the need to see a GP. From skin conditions and urinary tract infections to sore throats and allergies, your community pharmacist can assess symptoms, provide treatment, and issue medication where appropriate. Fast, accessible, and convenient—Pharmacy First Plus at Bristo Square pharmacy puts your health first.

This enhanced care helps avoid the need for referrals to other healthcare providers.

Please note that the range of conditions each prescriber can address may vary, as does the availability of our prescribing pharmacist. We encourage you to consult with our team or book on our website.
